My neighborhood is a generally safe place, and until last night I never felt uncomfortable walking to and around the Lindbergh City Center restaurants/bars across the street from my apartment . My friend and I left Taco Mac just before midnight- she had parked right outside, but I was in a lot just about a block down. I hopped into her car and she drove me to my car. As I got out of her car and walked to mine, a 5’8″ man with a tidy appearance approached my friend’s car. Due to his demeanor, I thought he was a security guard asking her to move her car or some such thing. I thought nothing of it & started my car. Suddenly, that man’s face was at my closed window, talking loudly. I rolled down my window an inch, in time to catch, “We don’t mean any harm, we just need a meal…” I quickly zipped the window back up and reversed out of there fast.
Who the hell approaches lone women in their cars? It was agressive and frightening, not your usual stand-and-wait panhandling (and again, he did not look homeless). Ladies, please be careful- bring your mace, pepper spray, stun gun, or some other self-defense device with you before you go out.
